GULF COAST FISHING
BP’s oil spill has placed the future of both commercial and recreational fishing in jeopardy. The uncontrolled oil slick continues to severely damage the fragile ecosystems throughout the Gulf that support our way of life. Tens of thousands of livelihoods and businesses have been put in the crosshairs of this environmental disaster and many companies are certainly doomed. Despite BP’s promises to take responsibility for all legitimate claims, disputes are starting to arise regarding what BP considers “legitimate”. It has been over a month since the oil spill began and BP has only approved compensation for a fraction of submitted claims. According to Alabama Attorney General Troy King, BP has paid about $600,000 on 2,000 claims in Alabama – approximately $300 per claim. The Oil Spill Task Force, sponsored by Arnold & Itkin, coordinates the financial, legal, and investigative resources needed to successfully represent the claims of fishermen as they look to BP for resolution and recovery. Commercial Fishermen We have heard numerous concerns regarding the claims process BP has established for commercial fishermen. There are complaints of conflicting instructions, unnecessary paperwork, delayed payments, discriminatory treatment towards fishermen with legal help, and other serious objections that should be addressed. The Oil Spill Task Force, sponsored by Arnold & Itkin, can help represent your claims with BP and help ensure that fair compensation is obtained for your lost income (both immediate and in the future). If you would like to discuss your complaint with our team, please call 888-498-8212 - we focus on representing your financial interests in claims against BP. Recreational Fishing Concerns There are more than 25 million recreational fishing trips taken in the Gulf of Mexico each year. The recreational fishing industry generates $1 billion in sales for Louisiana alone. As BP’s oil slick grows, NOAA continues to expand the fishing closures (now at over 20% of the Gulf). The economic toll is increasing for individuals, families, and businesses as each day passes. BP should be held to their legal responsibilities and help provide compensation to those affected by the spill. Recreational fishermen may make a claim based on loss of income, business interruption, property damage, and economic losses caused by environmental contamination and declines in tourism. If you would like to discuss your financial difficulties with our team, please call 888-498-8212 - we focus on representing your business’ interest in claims against BP. |
